The story of the blind Iraqi girl above reminds me of the Iraqi girl burn victim who was brought to the U.S. for plastic surgery four years ago. She was noticed by a U.S. soldier who was moved to make arrangements for her treatment. I can still see the smile on the face of the little girl’s mother as she walked alongside her daughter who was completely covered in a white robe to hide her burns. I still have the link but it’s been removed:
Obviously there are many children from Iraq and elsewhere who have been treated here. My heart just goes out to little children who suffer. Although the Iraqi medical care system has not completely returned to its 2003 pre-invasion level, it was never capable of properly treating the most serious cases.
